Makueni Constituency Member of Parliament Susan Kiamba has accused a section of senior Kamba political figures of sabotaging Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential ambitions and betraying the interests of the Ukambani region.
Speaking at Kalamba on Tuesday, Kiamba singled out former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, warning them against what she termed as “outdated and divisive politics” aimed at frustrating Kalonzo’s 2027 presidential bid.
“We respect you as elders and former leaders of the Kamba community, but the jokes and political games you have started now that Kalonzo Musyoka is running for president will not be accepted,” Kiamba said. “At this point, there is no Kenyan who does not know the leader capable of steering this country forward — and that leader is Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.”
The MP dismissed recent remarks by Muthama, who has questioned the viability of Kalonzo’s bid, arguing that relying on Kamba and Mt Kenya votes would not deliver the presidency. Kiamba termed the statements reckless and misleading, insisting that Kalonzo’s national appeal goes beyond regional and ethnic arithmetic.
She also took aim at Sonko, following the recent launch of his National Economic Development Party (NEDP), which has announced plans to field candidates in all elective positions, including the presidency — a move widely viewed as a direct threat to Wiper Party’s dominance in Ukambani.
“Mike Sonko was given the opportunity to lead Nairobi County and did nothing meaningful,” Kiamba charged. “Now he wants to lecture Kenyans on leadership and development. What exactly can he offer this country?”
On Charity Ngilu, Kiamba argued that the former Kitui Governor had already played her part in public service and should allow new political formations to take shape without interference.
“She served as governor, did her work until she got tired, and politically, that chapter is closed. In politics, once you expire, that is it. You cannot rejuvenate expired politics,” she said.
Kiamba further accused the trio of being compromised by external political interests, claiming they were being used to weaken Kalonzo’s presidential push. She warned them to keep Ukambani out of what she described as “mercenary politics.”
“If you have been given money by President Ruto, eat it wherever you are, but do not bring your old, degraded politics to us,” Kiamba declared. “Do not involve yourselves in our regional politics at all.”
The MP maintained that the Kamba community is firmly focused on the presidency and will not allow what she termed as “visionless leaders of ancient politics” to derail that goal.
“We are nearing the presidency, and we will not allow a few individuals to sabotage our collective dream,” she said.
Kalonzo Musyoka, a long-serving national leader and former Vice President, has intensified his nationwide engagements as speculation grows around his 2027 presidential bid.
His allies argue that recent political maneuvers by rival parties and former regional heavyweights are aimed at diluting Wiper Party’s influence in Ukambani — a strategy they say the community will firmly resist.
