Machakos County Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya is staring at a full–blown investigation after three ward reps accused her of gross constitutional violations—including shuttering the Assembly for more than two months, crippling service delivery, and running a nepotism racket that allegedly put her daughter on double pay.
Addressing residents in Matuu over the weekend, Matuu MCA Judas Ndawa, Katangi MCA Felix Ngui, and Ekalakala MCA Stephen Mwanthi invited the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to step in, arguing Kiusya’s actions breach Article 1 of the Kenyan Constitution, which vests sovereign power in the people—exercised through their elected leaders.
“On 9 August 2022, Machakos voters entrusted us with their voice,” Ndawa declared. “That voice has been muzzled because the House meant to represent them was locked by one person. That is a blatant constitutional violation, and she is unfit for public office.”
Ngui went further, calling on the Speaker to resign before the “axe” of the Assembly falls:
“She has turned the Assembly into a family business—hiring her daughter, then jet-setting her around the UK on public funds.”
Mwanthi echoed the outrage, blasting colleagues who side with Kiusya:
“How can you claim to exercise oversight while cheering on a Speaker who has hired her daughter as a cook, yet she is earning another salary as a nurse in Nairobi?”
The trio allege some MPs are using the Speaker to derail Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s development agenda; with the 2025/26 budget vote just weeks away, a continued shutdown could stall essential services county-wide.
“We won’t relent,” Mwanthi vowed. “If the Speaker won’t step aside, we’ll kick her out and restore the Assembly to the people of Machakos.”
