Twenty outstanding learners from Machakos County have been flagged off to Kasarani, Nairobi, to participate in the prestigious Equity Leaders Program (ELP), joining their peers from across the country.

The students, who excelled in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, expressed excitement over their selection and pledged to uphold honesty, discipline, and integrity throughout the program.

The learners will undergo a two-week induction before being attached to Equity Bank staff, where they will receive mentorship and training in professional skills.

Among the selected students is Joseph Mbithi, an Elimu Scholarship beneficiary who scored an impressive A- with 76 points in the KCSE. Aspiring to become a cardiologist, Joseph said the program has given him renewed hope and motivation to pursue his dream.

His colleague, Patience Ndunge, who also attained an A-, revealed plans to specialize in radiology and described the program as a “tremendous opportunity to broaden her perspective on globalization and professional growth.”

During the flag-off ceremony at Machakos Town Branch, Equity Bank Machakos Manager Hellen Muthoki emphasized that the program would instill key values such as discipline, professionalism, and integrity, preparing the students for future leadership roles.

Machakos County Education Minister, Dr. Consolata Mutisya, commended the initiative, noting that the county continues to support education through bursary disbursements for learners who miss out on similar opportunities. She stressed the importance of nurturing talent and ensuring that no student is left behind.

This year, Equity Bank has selected 733 learners nationwide for the ELP, demonstrating its commitment to empowering young leaders and shaping Kenya’s future workforce.
