A Kithimani court has sentenced Josephat Mutuku Kasyema to life imprisonment for a vicious attack on Agnes Njeri Kilonzo, the 80-year-old mother of former Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo.
The court heard that Kasyema attacked the elderly woman on 8th December 2023 at her home in the Ndalani area, Yatta Sub-County. He reportedly tied her with ropes, slashed her head with a panga, and stole her Samsung Galaxy J2 valued at Ksh.15,000 along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The assault left Agnes severely traumatized, causing her to lose the power of speech, the court noted. She was later rescued and received medical attention.
The prosecution, led by Fred Nderitu, Lydia Wang’ombe, and James Gachoka, described the attack as “vicious and heartless,” prompting the harsh sentence.
The case has sent a strong message against violent crime targeting the elderly in Machakos County.
