A coordinated multi-agency operation in Nyahururu Sub-County has resulted in the arrest of two suspected wildlife traffickers and the recovery of elephant tusks valued at KES 3.6 million.
The two suspects, identified as Robert Kiptoo and Sinko Kedienye, were seized at their hideout in the Kwa Wanjiku area after officers found them in possession of 18 kilograms of elephant tusks. According to investigators, the duo was preparing to sell the tusks to a potential buyer when the operation was launched.
Following their arrest, the suspects were escorted to Nyahururu Police Station, where the recovered tusks were also booked as exhibits. They are currently undergoing police processing and will be charged in court.
Authorities say the successful operation highlights the governmentโs steadfast commitment to dismantling wildlife trafficking networks and protecting endangered species. The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that such collaborative efforts between security and conservation agencies are crucial in safeguarding the countryโs natural heritage.
Kenya continues to intensify the fight against wildlife crime as part of broader efforts to preserve its rich biodiversity for future generations.
