Nguni Ward MCA, Hon. Jeremiah Musee Mutua, has been appointed as the new Leader of the Minority Party in the Kitui County Assembly, taking over from Miambani Ward MCA, Hon. Alex Mutambu Nganga.
The announcement was made by Speaker of the County Assembly, Kevin Kinengo Katisya, during the Wednesday afternoon plenary sitting on November 12, 2025.
In his communication to the House, the Speaker informed Members that his office had received a letter dated the same day from the Deputy Minority Party Leader, notifying him of the changes in the Minority Party leadership.
“Hon. Members, I wish to inform this House that my Office is in receipt of a letter dated 12th November 2025 from the Deputy Minority Party Leader notifying my Office of changes in the Minority Party leadership in the Kitui County Assembly. I therefore wish to communicate to this House the new leadership of the Minority Party,” announced Speaker Kinengo.
Under the new arrangement, Jeremiah Musee Mutua assumes the position of Minority Party Leader, succeeding Alex Mutambu Nganga. Boniface Maundu Katumbi takes over as Deputy Minority Party Leader, replacing Mutua. Gabriel Mutunga Munyao becomes the new Minority Party Whip, succeeding Sylvester Kitheka Munyao, while Kalamba Musau steps in as Deputy Minority Party Whip, replacing Katumbi.
The Speaker cited Standing Orders Nos. 16(8), (9), and (10), which outline the procedure for the removal and replacement of members in Assembly leadership positions. He further announced that, in line with the Kitui County Assembly Standing Orders, Mutua will also serve as a member of the Selection Committee, the Committee on Appointments, and the County Assembly Business Committee.
Speaker Kinengo congratulated the newly appointed Minority leadership and assured them of his full support as they take up their new roles. “My Office shall remain open for any consultations or assistance you may require,” he added.
Following the announcement, several Members of the County Assembly took the floor to commend the new leadership, expressing their confidence in the team’s ability to provide effective leadership, enhance oversight, and promote unity within the House.
Mutua’s elevation marks a new chapter for the Minority side in the Kitui County Assembly, with expectations high that the leadership will bring renewed energy, cooperation, and focus to legislative affairs.
