Police in Kitaingo village, Kilome sub-county in Makueni are pursuing a man who viciously assaulted his estranged wife in a shocking case of domestic violence.

Naomi Ndanu is currently recuperating at Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital after she was slashed multiple times on the head with a machete, bludgeoned with a Maasai rungu, and had her ears bitten by her former husband in a premeditated attack.

According to Ndanu, she had received a phone call from her estranged husband asking her to come and collect her belongings. However, what awaited her was a horrifying ordeal.

“When I arrived, he pushed me inside the house, locked the door and told me he had been trying to get me back using charms. He said this would be my last day alive and that nobody would ever know what he would do to me,” she recounted from her hospital bed.

“He began by smashing my head with a Maasai rungu. When I tried to shield myself, he took a panga and started slashing me mercilessly.”

Ndanu added that her only stroke of luck came when she realized the door was not padlocked. She managed to escape and screamed for help, alerting neighbors who rushed to her rescue.

Area Assistant Chief Stephen Kisenga confirmed that he had previously warned Ndanu not to fall for the man’s pleas.

“We’ve tried to help this woman several times. I personally cautioned her not to go back to collect anything from him. But once someone makes up their mind, what more can you do?” lamented the chief.

Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Jane Mwende, said Ndanu was brought in with a deep cut running from her mouth down to her neck, along with multiple slash wounds to her head.

“We managed to stop the bleeding and stitched the wounds. She is now stable and out of danger,” Dr. Mwende confirmed.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is still at large. Authorities are urging members of the public to report any information that could lead to his arrest.
