A wave of shock and anger has gripped residents of Kyamuthei following the gruesome killing of Mathew Kituu, a local businessman who was reportedly bludgeoned to death inside his home by assailants believed to have been dressed in police uniforms.

Speaking on Saturday when he attended a burial at Mumbuni Village, Kaiti Member of Parliament Joshua Kimilu strongly condemned the incident and issued a stern ultimatum to security authorities.

“We are witnessing high insecurity in our Constituency. Just the other day you saw how a businessman was killed here at Kyamuthei,” said the visibly agitated MP.

He issued a three-day ultimatum to the County Police Commander to apprehend the suspects behind the murder or face calls for his transfer.

“We are giving the County Commander only three days to apprehend the criminals who were involved in this murder case, failure to which we will demand your transfer,” Kimilu declared.

The MP, while expressing frustration over the rising cases of insecurity, vowed to lead mass demonstrations if action is not taken immediately.

“As the area MP, I will not accept my people to continue being killed anyhow. If no action is taken, I will mobilize demonstrations that have never been witnessed before – ‘Kwa sababu mimi sitaki ujinga’,” he warned. “Our people cannot continue being killed in their houses while no action is taken.”

The murder of Mr. Kituu has sent shockwaves through the region, with residents now living in fear amid rising criminal activity.

Reports indicate that shortly after the Kyamuthei incident, suspected thugs were also spotted at Kyuasini area, deepening security concerns in the constituency.

“Just after this incident I got another report that there were other thugs reported at Kyuasini area. We cannot continue like this,” Kimilu added. “County Commander, tumekupatia kazi; kama kazi imekushinda tafadhali enda nyumbani.”

Calling on the national government to act with urgency, the MP emphasized that security is not a favor but a constitutional responsibility.

“I am speaking as the area MP. I will not allow my people to suffer from insecurity. The main responsibility of this government is to protect our people,” he said.

Residents have echoed the MP’s sentiments, calling for thorough investigations into the killing of Mr. Kituu and swift action to restore security in the region.

The County Police Commander is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
