Makueni Set to Benefit Big from KSh 455 Billion Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway

News

Makueni County stands to gain significantly from the proposed KSh 455 billion Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway, a transformative infrastructure project that promises to unlock vast economic potential along its route.

The 444-kilometre modern highway will cut across 110 kilometres of Makueni County, firmly placing the region at the heart of this major development.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Nairobi and Mombasa to just five hours, creating a faster, safer, and more sustainable transport corridor.

During a courtesy call on Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Kyle McCarter, a representative of Evergreen Capital—the firm spearheading the project's funding—disclosed that the expressway blueprint includes the development of three new cities along the route.

The project, which is slated for completion in four years, will feature 12 highway exits, eight rest areas, and three dedicated wildlife crossings, ensuring convenience and environmental consideration in its design.

Stakeholder engagement is being prioritized, with plans to involve county governments, landowners, and other affected parties.

This approach aims to ensure smooth implementation, equitable compensation, and conflict-free development throughout the project's lifecycle.

The expressway is expected to significantly boost regional trade, tourism, and investment, cementing Makueni’s position as a key player in Kenya’s infrastructural and economic future.
