Mbooni Girls Reclaims Top Spot in Makueni with Stellar KCSE Performance

Mbooni Girls’ High School has once again emerged as the top-performing school in Makueni County after posting an outstanding mean score of 9.6 in the latest KCSE examinations, reaffirming its status as an academic powerhouse in the region.

The school registered an impressive 10 straight A (plain) grades, alongside 57 A– and 56 B+ grades. Remarkably, the lowest score was a C–, underscoring the overall strength of the cohort. Out of 236 candidates, 235 attained C+ and above, qualifying for direct university admission—representing an exceptional 99.6 per cent transition rate. The mean score also marked an improvement of +0.2 from the previous year.

Speaking after the release of the results, Mbooni Girls’ Principal Agnes M. Ithinga attributed the success to hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment from all stakeholders.

“It is about hard work and prayers. Our students and teachers have put in a lot of effort. The teachers are highly committed and intrinsically motivated—you will find them in class even over the weekends,” she said.

Ms. Ithinga further lauded parents for their strong support, noting that their involvement plays a critical role in motivating teachers, students, the board, and the wider school community.

 “The parents are very supportive. They back school programmes fully, and that motivation trickles down to everyone,” she added.

Makueni Boys High School followed closely in second position with a commendable mean score of 8.34. The school recorded one A (plain), 13 A–, and 67 B+ grades. Of the 446 candidates who sat the examination, 417 qualified for university admission, translating to a 93.49 per cent transition rate. Principal Francis Mutua credited the strong performance to teamwork among students, teachers, and parents.

“This success is a result of hard work and good cooperation between the school and parents,” he said.

Taking third place was St. Theresa Makueni Girls’ High School, which posted a mean score of 8.07. The school produced one A (plain), 12 A–, and 36 B+ grades. From an entry of 327 candidates, 279 attained C+ and above, marking an 85.32 per cent transition rate.

Several other schools across the county also posted commendable results. Kaumoni Boys High School recorded a mean score of 7.7, with seven A– grades and a 78.23 per cent university transition rate. Mwaani Girls’ High School attained a mean of 7.69, producing five A– grades and a transition rate of 84 percent. St. Precious Blood Kilungu with a mean of 7.68 and transition rate of 84 per cent, The Kitondo School posted a mean score of 7.5 with an 80.8 per cent transition rate, while AIC Matiliku Boys High School achieved a mean of 7.37, producing one A (plain) and 10 A– grades, alongside a 78.3 per cent transition rate.

The strong performance by Makueni County schools reflects a growing culture of academic excellence, driven by dedication from students, professionalism among teachers, and sustained support from parents and school managements.
