Standard Group Correspodent Japheth Makau Mourned As Dedicated Journalist And True Professional

The media fraternity is in mourning following the death of veteran journalist Japheth Makau, a correspondent with the Standard Group, whose passing has been described as a heavy blow to both the profession and Machakos County.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Machakos Governor’s Advisor on Public Relations and Communications, Nickko Nyamai, eulogised Makau as not only a media colleague but a brother whose commitment to journalism was exemplary.

Nyamai said Makau distinguished himself through truthful, balanced and impactful reporting, earning respect among peers and the communities he served. He noted that until his passing, Makau remained dedicated to his role at the Standard Group, where his professionalism and passion for storytelling stood out.

“His death is a heavy loss to the media fraternity and to all of us who worked closely with him,” Nyamai said, adding that Machakos County has lost a committed professional while the media industry has lost a strong and passionate voice.

He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Makau’s family, friends and colleagues at the Standard Group, describing this as a difficult moment for all who knew and worked with the late journalist.

As tributes continue to pour in, Makau is remembered as a journalist who upheld the values of integrity, accuracy and balance, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire upcoming media practitioners.
