Former Regional Commissioner Mohamed Ahmed Maalim, popularly known as Kadenge, has formally entered the Wajir East parliamentary race, bringing with him decades of experience in national administration and public service as the 2027 General Election begins to take shape.
Kadenge’s declaration last week marked the transition of a long-serving government administrator into elective politics, a move his supporters say injects experience, discipline and tested leadership into the contest. His entry was bolstered by a major endorsement from the Faqifarah fraternity, a show of confidence that signaled early momentum for his campaign.
Addressing residents during the endorsement ceremony, Kadenge said his decision to seek elective office was motivated by a desire to directly serve the people of Wajir East, drawing from his extensive background in government.
“I have served this country diligently in various capacities. I now want to bring that experience back home to address the challenges facing our people,” he said.
Widely regarded as a credible and formidable contender, Kadenge served in several senior positions within national administration, culminating in his role as Regional Commissioner. In that capacity, he coordinated security operations, development programmes and intergovernmental relations, gaining deep insight into governance, policy implementation and the unique socio-economic and security challenges facing northern Kenya.
His tenure was characterized by a results-driven approach, particularly in enhancing security, promoting peaceful coexistence among communities and strengthening service delivery. These efforts earned him recognition and multiple awards, reinforcing his reputation as a disciplined and effective public servant.
Beyond security and administration, Kadenge brings strong expertise in public finance management, disaster response and development coordination—key areas of concern for Wajir East. His supporters believe this background places him in a strong position to advocate effectively for the constituency at the national level and push for fair allocation of resources.
Kadenge has also maintained close engagement with local leaders, elders and the youth over the years, strengthening his grassroots networks and understanding of community needs. He has pledged to prioritize security, education, water access, youth empowerment and inclusive development if elected.
Community elders at the event described him as a dependable and results-oriented leader, urging residents to rally behind him for effective representation in Parliament. The gathering was marked by traditional songs and dances, with speakers calling for unity and peaceful politics ahead of the 2027 polls.
With his formal declaration, Mohamed Ahmed Maalim enters the Wajir East race as a candidate whose campaign is anchored on experience, institutional knowledge and a record of delivery—qualities his supporters say distinguish him as the contest begins to unfold
