Detectives from Lucky Summer Police Station have arrested a key suspect believed to be the mastermind behind a counterfeit currency syndicate operating in Nairobi, recovering a large consignment of fake United States dollars.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Felix Nyegesa, was apprehended after officers acting on intelligence intercepted a white Toyota Prado, registration number KDQ 401U, in the Lucky Summer area. The vehicle was suspected of being used to transport counterfeit currency.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a locked metallic blue box concealed in the boot. Nyegesa declined to open the box, prompting detectives to escort him and the vehicle to Lucky Summer Police Station for further investigations.

At the station, the box was opened, revealing 68 bundles of counterfeit US currency, each containing 100 fake 100-dollar notes. Detectives also recovered cartons, newspapers, cotton wool, sand and stones, which are believed to have been used to disguise the illicit haul and evade detection.

Nyegesa is currently being held in police custody as detectives intensify investigations to establish the full scope of the counterfeit currency network and identify other suspects linked to the racket. He is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
