A remote school in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County, is poised for a transformative upgrade after the Mpesa Foundation unveiled a Sh35 million infrastructure reconstruction project at Gandini Comprehensive School.
The institution’s head teacher, Hellen Mwaringa, expressed optimism that the improved facilities will not only enhance learning conditions but also attract more students.
“The entire primary section will be housed in a new block stretching to the perimeter fence. We are very grateful for the tremendous support from Mpesa Foundation,” Mwaringa said.
Mpesa Foundation Trustee, Patricia Ithau, underscored the organization’s commitment to bolstering education across Kenya by investing in school infrastructure.
“We are investing Sh35 million to completely renovate the school — from classrooms for primary learners to a computer lab, ablution blocks, and a modern kitchen,” Ithau stated. “This project is part of our broader mission to support over 500 schools nationwide this year.”
Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi lauded the foundation’s effort, noting that private sector support was critical in complementing government efforts through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“The burden of school construction is immense, and partners like Mpesa Foundation play a crucial role in plugging the funding gap. I am grateful for the reconstruction work at Gandini, and hopeful that more schools in Malindi will benefit next year,” she said.
The groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone for Gandini Comprehensive School and bolsters ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education in rural areas.
