Celebrated comedian Sammy Kioko has refuted claims by the Machakos County Government that he did not supply any goods to the devolved unit, dismissing a recent county statement as misleading and politically charged.
Speaking emotionally in a video shared online, Kioko expressed disappointment after the county alleged that his demand for payment was part of a “calculated political scheme” to tarnish the governor’s image.
“I’m just a young man trying to hustle my way up,” Kioko said. “Why would I want to tarnish the governor's name? I am not a politician. I only wanted what is rightfully owed to us.”
Kioko maintained that he had fully delivered the uniforms as per the tender requirements and is in possession of all necessary documentation, including a Local Purchase Order (LPO). He claimed the supplied uniforms are currently in use by county enforcement officers—evidence, he says, that the transaction was legitimate.
The comedian further revealed that he personally visited multiple county offices in Machakos while following up on the payment, including that of Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi. According to Kioko, the deputy governor was fully aware of the issues and even communicated with the officer who awarded the tender over the pending dues.
“The story has now been distorted into some political narrative. All I wanted was to see the governor and explain why her officers are ignoring us,” he added.
Kioko also highlighted the immense personal toll the delay in payment has had on him and his business partner, Moreen, who jointly run a design and supply business. He said they were forced to borrow heavily to complete the job within the two-week deadline, and now face staggering debts and the collapse of their enterprise.
Moreen, who recently underwent a caesarean section delivery, is battling serious medical complications requiring urgent surgery, but says she cannot afford the treatment due to the unpaid dues.
“We invested our all in that job. The delivery was stamped and confirmed, yet here we are begging for what we worked for,” Moreen lamented.
The duo insists they never intended for the matter to play out publicly but were pushed to the extremes after being repeatedly denied access to the governor. They are appealing for direct intervention, pleading with Governor Wavinya Ndeti to address the matter personally.
“Madam Governor, I have all the documents here. Your people are misleading you. Please hear us out,” Kioko said in closing, hinting that the delays have pushed them to the brink of eviction and deeper financial crisis.
The Machakos County Government is yet to issue a fresh response following Kioko’s rebuttal.
