Residents of Makindu Town and the surrounding areas are set to benefit from an estimated KSh100 million water project aimed at addressing decades of chronic water shortages that have forced many households to rely on costly private water vendors.
Speaking during the launch of the project, Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse said the initiative will significantly improve access to clean and reliable water for residents who have endured an unreliable public water supply.
Mutuse noted that the existing water infrastructure has been unable to meet the growing demand, with residents receiving piped water only once a week, and for only a few minutes due to an ageing and dilapidated distribution network.
He said the new project will transform water access through the drilling of five new boreholes expected to produce nearly 60 million litres of water. The project also includes the construction of nearly 20 kilometres of new water pipelines and last-mile connectivity to ensure water reaches more households.
According to the MP, the project is expected to increase the water supply capacity across the entire Kibwezi West Constituency to more than three million litres per day, easing pressure on existing water sources and improving the quality of life for thousands of residents.
Mutuse expressed confidence that the investment would bring lasting relief to communities that have struggled with water scarcity for years, saying the suffering experienced by residents would soon come to an end.
He thanked William Ruto for funding the project, describing the government's investment in Kibwezi West as a demonstration of its commitment to improving essential services and accelerating development in the constituency.
The MP also expressed gratitude to Makindu residents for the warm reception accorded to him during the launch ceremony, reaffirming his commitment to delivering more development projects to the area.
