The father of a 22-year-old woman who was brutally murdered in Machakos on Monday by her estranged husband has appealed to well-wishers to help the family give his daughter a decent burial.
Peter Ondari, a boda boda operator in Kiambu County, said the cost of transporting the body of his daughter, Susan Nyamboke, from Machakos to their rural home in Kisii County was beyond the family’s means.
Speaking outside the Machakos Level Five Referral Hospital Mortuary, where the body is lying, a visibly heartbroken Ondari said he was yet to come to terms with the killing of his firstborn child.
“I don’t know why the man decided to kill my daughter, whom I was looking upon for support,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion.
Ondari recounted that he had advised his daughter to leave her husband after she confided in him about the abuse she was going through in the troubled marriage.
The father of three condemned the killing, describing it as a “big mistake” that robbed the family of a young and promising life.
Reverend Mary Wamae, a pastor at the church the family attends, also condemned the killing, describing it as an act of evil that had robbed the community of a beloved member.
“The enemy has stolen our joy,” she said, urging young women not to rush into marriage simply because they have children with their partners.
Reverend Wamae further appealed to well-wishers to support the grieving family financially and through prayers, noting that they come from a humble background.
Susan Nyamboke, who worked for a microfinance firm in Machakos town, was reportedly attacked by her estranged husband, who slashed her several times with a panga, killing her instantly.
Angry members of the public who witnessed the incident cornered the suspect, beat him up, and lynched him in a fit of rage.
Police have launched investigations into the matter as the family makes arrangements to transport the body for burial in Kisii.
