Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi has assured that the Nyanza region will firmly remain in government and continue supporting President William Ruto, in line with the wishes of the late former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking at Opoda Farm, the late Raila’s rural home, Wandayi said residents of Nyanza were committed to honoring the vision and guidance of their fallen leader, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment in India.

“Baba left us in government under the leadership of President William Ruto, and that is where we are going to stay till the end,” declared Wandayi, adding that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will continue working closely with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to advance the objectives of the Broad-Based Government.

The CS emphasized that the ODM Party and the Nyanza region will walk step by step with President Ruto through 2027 and beyond, maintaining unity and collaboration for national progress.

Wandayi also lauded the appointment of Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga as the interim ODM Party Leader, describing him as a seasoned politician with the experience, composure, and leadership capacity to steer the party forward.

He further urged the ODM leadership to convene a National Delegates Conference immediately after Raila Odinga’s state funeral to formally confirm Dr. Oburu Odinga’s appointment.

Calling for peace and unity ahead of Raila’s grand send-off, Wandayi appealed to Nyanza residents to extend warm hospitality to guests arriving from across the country and beyond.

“We want this funeral to send a strong message — not only to Kenyans but to the entire world — that we, the people of this region, remain united, organized, and committed to the ideals championed by Baba,” he said.
