Detectives drawn from Igembe South, Igembe North and Mutuati sub-counties have arrested a National Police Reserve (NPR) officer and recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in a string of robberies in Kirindine area, Igembe South Sub-County.
The arrest follows a meticulously coordinated operation targeting a criminal gang implicated in a violent robbery that occurred on December 19, 2025, at Kirindini Shopping Centre.
Acting on crucial intelligence, the team of detectives conducted a series of operations in Kina Meru, Kiutine and Kina-Duba villages, culminating in the arrest of the suspect, who is alleged to be part of the larger gang behind the brazen attack.
During interrogation, the officer led detectives to a location where he had buried an AK-47 rifle, reportedly used during the robbery. Officers recovered the firearm alongside a magazine loaded with two rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition.
Detectives also confiscated the official Government-issued G3 rifle assigned to the NPR officer, together with one magazine, as part of the ongoing investigations.
The suspect is currently in custody as he undergoes processing ahead of arraignment in court. Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to track down and arrest his accomplices who are still at large.
As Kenyans mark the festive season, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated that it has heightened security operations across the country and will act swiftly and decisively against criminal elements to protect lives, property and public peace.
