Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially re-entered the political arena with a bold move: the launch of a new political party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), just days after resigning from the United Democratic Party.

Unveiled in a colorful ceremony held in Lavington, Nairobi, the party features neon green, brown, and white colors. Its logo—an ear cupped by fingers—symbolizes attentiveness to citizen voices, while the slogan “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans) sends a strong message about its core mission.

Gachagua, who assumes the role of Party Leader, used the event to introduce a powerful and diverse lineup of interim party officials, signaling his intent to challenge the political establishment head-on.

Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was named Deputy Party Leader, while former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi took up the role of National Organizing Secretary. Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru was appointed as the National Women Leader.

Hezron Obatha will serve as the Interim Secretary General, with Martil Ole Kamwaro as his deputy. Hannah Mutua was named the National Treasurer, and Wanjra Njoka the Deputy National Treasurer.

In his address, Gachagua emphasized that the party was born out of public demand, shaped by conversations with Kenyans who feel sidelined by current leadership. He said the party’s primary goal will be to create an inclusive and responsive government rooted in the voices and needs of the people.

“Kenyans are tired. They are tired of corruption, abductions, extra-judicial killings, and state capture. They’ve told us clearly—they want a government that listens to them and represents them truthfully,” said Gachagua.

Signaling a significant shift in political strategy, Gachagua underscored the importance of Gen Zs and millennials in the party’s structure and future. He described them as untapped patriots—innovative, passionate, and eager to lead.

“They are not just the future—they are the now. Their only demand is to be heard and included. And we are doing exactly that,” he declared.

As the 2027 general election looms on the horizon, Gachagua announced that he will be touring the country to popularize the DCP and build momentum for a major political showdown.

“We are forming a coalition of opposition leaders who believe, like we do, that President William Ruto should be a one-term president. The time for change is now.”

With a new brand, fresh faces, and a fiery call to action, Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party is poised to shake up Kenya’s political landscape.
