A tragic confrontation between two police officers over a woman in Kitengela, Kajiado County, ended in death on Thursday night after one of them was allegedly thrown from a fourth-floor balcony.
According to a police incident report, the deceased, identified as Police Constable (PC) Manasseh Ithiru, attached to Kitengela Police Station, was found lifeless in a pool of blood in the parking lot of Geoffrey Flats, off Deliverance Road, about three kilometres south of the station.
The drama reportedly began at around 7:00 p.m. when PC Ithiru visited his girlfriend, 27-year-old Irene Wavinya Nzioka, who lives in room 416 of the apartment block. The officer had arrived on a motorbike taxi and asked the rider, Evans Barasa, to return later and pick him up.
However, during the visit, another man — later identified as Sgt. Abubakar Said, attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) EPZ Camp in Athi River — arrived at the apartment. He is also said to be romantically involved with Ms. Nzioka.
Police believe a heated altercation erupted between the two armed officers over the woman. The confrontation allegedly turned violent, with Sgt. Said reportedly overpowering PC Ithiru and throwing him from the fourth-floor balcony.
Officers from Kitengela Police Station, accompanied by DCI personnel, processed and documented the scene. The body, which bore multiple injuries including severe head trauma, was moved to Shalom Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
Both Sgt. Said and Ms. Nzioka were arrested and are being held in police custody as investigations continue. Detectives from the DCI in Kitengela are handling the case.
The incident has shocked residents of Kitengela, with many expressing disbelief that a quarrel over a love affair could escalate into such a fatal encounter between two members of the police service.
