Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko has issued a stern warning to residents over rising cases of fraud linked to the government’s affordable housing program.

She cautioned the public against falling prey to con artists falsely claiming to have the ability to allocate houses under the government initiative.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations held at Scott University Grounds in Machakos Town Constituency, Ouko revealed that fraudsters have been moving from village to village, duping unsuspecting residents with fake promises of housing allocations.

She encouraged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals to the authorities.

Ouko further encouraged residents to support the affordable housing initiative, noting that they stand a chance of being among the legitimate beneficiaries.

She announced that the Miwani housing project—now complete with 220 units—is set for an official launch by the President in the near future.

Beyond housing, the County Commissioner raised concern over the increasing incidents of gender-based violence in the region.

She urged couples to foster peaceful relationships and avoid domestic conflicts that often lead to abuse.

In her address, Ouko also appealed to those battling drug and substance abuse to seek help from the newly established NACADA Centre in the county, emphasizing the government’s commitment to rehabilitation and community well-being.
