Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has launched a scathing attack on Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, accusing him of political double standards and secretly aligning with President William Ruto’s administration while publicly projecting himself as a loyal Kalonzo Musyoka ally.
In a charged address to his constituents, Mutuse painted the Governor as a political chameleon who speaks the language of Wiper during the day, but holds secret talks with the Kenya Kwanza government at night.
“This Governor Mutula should stop deceiving people. We know he comes here pretending to be aligned with Kalonzo, but at night, he’s talking to the government. I’m in government — I know what I’m saying,” Mutuse declared.
The MP claimed Mutula has been reaching out to senior figures in the government, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, threatening to abandon Wiper if not handed the party’s ticket for re-election in 2027.
“You can’t be inside and outside at the same time. Stop secretly calling the President saying you'll work with him in future while deceiving Kalonzo that you're still with him,” he added.
Mutuse also challenged the Governor to stop undermining his re-election bid in Kibwezi West. “You came here and told people not to elect Mutuse for a second term — who told you your own term can’t be limited to one? We also have the ability to make you a one-term governor.”
Calling for an end to personal politics, Mutuse urged Mutula to engage in ideological discourse instead. “Big minds discuss ideas, small minds discuss people — so Governor Mutula, let’s engage at the level of ideas,” he said.
In a swift rebuttal, Governor Mutula dismissed Mutuse’s allegations as “fake news” and political propaganda. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Wiper party, stating he is a life member and the party’s Vice Chair.
“I have no business looking for another party. These are baseless claims by a failed politician trying to rescue his declining career,” the Governor stated
As the 2027 elections inch closer, the emerging cracks within the Wiper leadership may shape the region’s political future in unexpected ways.
