Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the immediate resignation of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, following the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal which found that the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was tainted by illegality and political manipulation.

Speaking in Kiambu during the retirement ceremony of Ven. Canon John Mungai at ACK St. Luke’s Sigona Parish, Kalonzo did not mince his words. He declared that the Court’s findings had triggered a constitutional crisis, effectively leaving the country with two Deputy Presidents — a situation he termed untenable.

“We are staring at a serious legal crisis. Right now, Kenya has two Deputy Presidents, which is unconstitutional. I respect Kithure Kindiki, but the honorable thing for him to do now is to resign and pave the way for due process,” Kalonzo said.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the Deputy Chief Justice had no authority to constitute the High Court bench that presided over Gachagua’s impeachment case, rendering the entire process null and void — or “void ab initio,” as Kalonzo emphasized.

Backing Kalonzo’s sentiments, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa echoed the call for Kindiki’s resignation, stating that the country could not continue operating with two individuals claiming the Deputy President’s office.

“As a country, we must uphold the Constitution. It only provides for one Deputy President. Kindiki, being a law professor, knows this better than anyone and should do the honorable thing — step aside,” Wamalwa said.

He further asserted that Rigathi Gachagua remains the duly elected Deputy President and labeled Kindiki an "imposter" holding office illegitimately.
