Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve.
Speaking during Munuve’s funeral service in Nzeluni, Kitui County, Kalonzo expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the MCA’s passing, insisting that the country deserves to know the truth.
“We must be told what really happened to Munuve. If it is confirmed that he died from a blood clot, so be it. But what we will not accept is the growing culture of political assassinations,” Kalonzo said.
He described the late MCA as a fearless and principled leader who stood firm against corruption in Nairobi, often exposing questionable dealings within the county government.
Kalonzo challenged other ward representatives to take inspiration from Munuve’s bold stance and rise up against the rampant looting of public funds.
“What is crippling our economy is the shameless theft of public resources. I urge all MCAs to speak out and resist corruption just like Munuve did,” he urged.
Several dignitaries and leaders were present to pay their last respects, including DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, and Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna. Also in attendance were leaders from the Nairobi County Assembly, led by Speaker Ken Ngondi and Deputy Speaker Paul Kados.
Joel Munuve collapsed and died on April 22, 2025, while on his way for a check-up at AAR Hospital along Kiambu Road. The hospital later clarified that he was not admitted and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The late MCA was a vocal critic of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration. He regularly demanded accountability for county projects and had recently questioned the operations of Sakaja’s signature school feeding programme — a move that had drawn public attention shortly before his death.
