Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has challenged politicians seeking elective positions, including the presidency, to account for their development record and demonstrate what they have done for the people of Makueni.
Speaking during a women’s economic empowerment event at Matiliku in Makueni Constituency, Mutuse said residents should not be swayed by political rhetoric but should demand clear evidence of what aspiring leaders have delivered to the county.
The legislator cited major projects implemented under President William Ruto’s administration, including the Emali–Matiliku–Ukia Road and the Thwake Multipurpose Dam, arguing that such initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to transforming Makueni.
Mutuse also criticised Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., accusing his administration of failing to adequately understand and respond to the needs and challenges facing residents.
He urged the people of Makueni to demand a change in leadership and support politicians who understand their concerns and are capable of delivering meaningful development.
The MP further called on residents across the wider Ukambani region to rethink their political choices, arguing that the region has lagged behind in development due to poor leadership and an ineffective approach to national politics.
Mutuse urged voters to move away from rigid party loyalty and instead elect leaders based on their performance, competence and ability to deliver tangible results.
“Parties do not deliver development; leaders do,” he said, urging Ukambani residents to prioritise leaders who can effectively champion their interests and secure development opportunities for the region.
