Police officers involved in the arrest of four suspects accused of violently robbing retired Chief Physiotherapist Titus Muteti Kilika have narrated how they tracked down and apprehended the accused persons before presenting them in court.
Testifying before Senior Principal Magistrate Jaffline Sure, DCI officer Bernard Mungai and Corporal Cleophas Muasa detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest and transfer of the suspects to face charges in connection with the robbery.
The officers told the court that on September 18, 2024, they proceeded to Muthaiga and Ruaraka police stations, where some of the accused persons had been held. The fourth suspect was reportedly arrested at a hotel in Mavoko before being taken to Kangundo Police Station.
The accused persons are Duncan Wambua Kimeu, a taxi driver, Dennis Ndolo Mutunga, Wambua Kinyili Mutunga and Charles Mutinda Margaret.
The case relates to an incident on April 29, 2024, when Kilika was allegedly robbed at Kambai Junction along the Kangundo–Mwala Road in Machakos County.
During the incident, the retired medical professional reportedly lost a Samsung mobile phone, national identity card, NHIF card, medical practitioner’s card, ATM cards from Equity, Family, Sidian and Shirika banks, as well as cash amounting to KSh1.5 million.
The prosecution, led by State Counsel Bessie Gikonyo, is expected to call several additional witnesses as the hearing continues.
Among those summoned are liaison officers from Airtel and Safaricom, Dr Debbie from Machakos, the Equity Bank manager based at KNUT House, officers from the National Registration Bureau who will testify on fingerprint evidence, and Chief Inspector Teresia Kirungui, among others.
The matter will come up for a prison mention on September 16, 2026, while further hearings are scheduled for September 24 and September 30, 2026.
The court has directed that all four accused persons appear during the proceedings.
