Prof. Philip Kaloki has called for practical and action-oriented leadership in Makueni, saying the county must focus on turning development opportunities into tangible results for residents.
Kaloki spoke after Makueni UDA leaders held an engagement with Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, alongside officials from the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and Kenya Power, to discuss the acceleration of rural electrification and network maximisation projects across the county.
More than KSh2.3 billion is being invested in electrification projects covering Makueni’s six constituencies, with the latest discussions focusing on ensuring the projects are implemented efficiently and residents begin experiencing tangible benefits.
The engagement comes as the county seeks to expand electricity access, particularly in areas that remain underserved.
As part of efforts to fast-track implementation, PS Alex Wachira is expected to visit Kilome, Kaiti, Kibwezi West and Kibwezi East next week.
The visits will include the launch of new electrification projects as well as inspections of ongoing works to assess their progress and identify areas requiring intervention.
Wachira is also expected to visit Mbooni and Makueni constituencies in subsequent engagements as the government continues rolling out electricity projects across the county.
Kaloki said the engagements demonstrate the importance of bringing together political leaders, government agencies and development partners to address the needs of residents.
He said Makueni requires leadership that prioritises practical engagement and strategic partnerships while ensuring government investments translate into visible improvements in people's lives.
“Makueni deserves leadership that turns opportunities into results,” Kaloki said.
The electrification programme is expected to support households, businesses, schools and other institutions while improving economic opportunities across the county.
For Makueni residents, the focus now shifts from announced investments to actual implementation, with the upcoming inspections expected to provide a clearer picture of the progress of the projects on the ground.
