Allies of President William Ruto from the Ukambani region have intensified their criticism of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of orchestrating political efforts aimed at undermining the Head of State despite the support Ruto allegedly extended to him throughout his decade in office.
Speaking during a church service at AIC Watuka in Mbooni Constituency on Sunday, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse defended President Ruto, describing him as a loyal deputy who stood firmly behind Uhuru Kenyatta during his two terms in office.
Mutuse argued that President Ruto played a crucial role in Uhuru's successful presidential campaigns in 2013 and 2017, and said it was unfair for the former President to oppose the current administration.
"President Ruto stood with Uhuru when many people did not trust him. He worked tirelessly to ensure he became President and secured a second term. It is therefore unfortunate for the former President to turn against the very leader who stood with him throughout his presidency," said Mutuse.
The MP further claimed that the Kenya Kwanza administration is implementing key development programmes that were not achieved under Uhuru's government, arguing that the former President should not be dissatisfied with the progress being made by the current administration.
Mutuse also called on the former Head of State to retire gracefully and refrain from engaging in active politics, insisting that President Ruto should be allowed to govern without political interference.
"It would be better for former President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire honourably and stop meddling in the political affairs of this country. Kenyans elected President William Ruto, and he should be given the opportunity to implement his development agenda without unnecessary political distractions," he said.
The legislator maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government remains focused on delivering development projects across the country and urged leaders to prioritise service delivery over premature political campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election.
