Makueni County has been praised by the World Bank and partner agencies for its effective implementation of projects under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLOCCA) programme.
During an implementation support mission, the delegation, led by FLOCCA Program Manager for County Coordination Abraham Barsosui and World Bank Senior Water Engineer Pascaline Wanjiku, commended the county for adopting an integrated approach that combines agriculture, water, and environmental projects while maintaining high standards of transparency and accountability. Representatives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also took part in the mission.
The team met the county leadership to assess the progress of FLOCCA-funded projects and strengthen program governance, describing Makueni's implementation model as a benchmark for effective climate action at the county level.
Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the county government's commitment to completing all FLOCCA-funded projects before the program concludes in December. She said the investments will significantly improve livelihoods across the county but expressed concern over the rising cases of vandalism targeting public projects, warning that the destruction of development infrastructure threatens to undermine the benefits intended for local communities.
The FLOCCA program supports locally-led climate resilience initiatives aimed at improving water security, environmental conservation, and sustainable agricultural production in counties across Kenya.
