Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has appealed to the Kenya Kwanza administration to expedite the completion of stalled infrastructure projects across the county, saying the delayed works are hampering economic growth, agricultural expansion, and connectivity.
Speaking during a development tour of the Oldonyo Sabuk area in Matungulu Sub-County, the Governor identified several key road projects that have remained incomplete, including the Tala–Oldonyo Sabuk Road, Devki–Kinanie Road, Mwala–Kangundo Road, Matuu–Ekalakala Road, and Kivandini–Masinga Road.
She called on the National Government to prioritize the projects and accelerate the upgrading of roads across Machakos County to improve accessibility and facilitate the efficient movement of people, goods, and services.
Governor Wavinya said the completion of the road network is essential to complement her administration's development agenda, particularly its investments in agriculture and water infrastructure aimed at positioning Machakos as a leading agricultural producer.
"I want to position Machakos as the food basket of this country, and quality infrastructure will play a key role as we continue investing in agriculture and reliable water projects," she said.
The Governor noted that improved road infrastructure would lower transportation costs for farmers, enhance access to markets, and stimulate trade and investment across the county.
Her remarks come amid growing concern over delayed national infrastructure projects, even as the National Government continues to unveil new development initiatives in different parts of the country. She urged the government to first complete ongoing projects, arguing that doing so would deliver tangible benefits to residents and accelerate socio-economic development in Machakos County.
