Game-Changer for Makueni! County Assembly Teams Up with ICPAK to Boost Accountability and Oversight in Bold New Move

In a bid to strengthen its oversight role, enhance accountability and professional development, the Makueni County Assembly is working out on a collaboration framework with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

The ICPAK delegation, led by the ICPAK Eastern Branch vice Chair CPA Felix Mulwa today engaged the Assembly leadership under the chairmanship of the Deputy Speaker Francis Mulwa in a round table meeting geared towards drawing a Memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Part of the Key highlights that will inform the MoU will be to strengthen partnerships in capacity building, technical support, and institutional development.

The Assembly is proposing to provide specialized training programs for Members of the County Assembly’s Budget and Appropriation Committee, Public Investments Committee, Finance & Social Economic Planning Committee, and Public Accounts Committee as well as ICPAK members in the Assembly workforce.

The programs will focus on enhancing skills in budget oversight, public financial management, and compliance with auditing standards. Additionally, both parties explored innovative strategies to help members achieve their mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a requirement for accounting professionals to maintain certification and stay updated on industry best practices. 

The meeting was attended by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chair Jonathan Kimongo, Elizabeth Muli (member of PAC) and the Clerk of the County Assembly Kevin Mutuku.
