The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has strongly condemned the torching of its party offices in Wote Town, Makueni County, terming the incident a “barbaric and criminal attack” allegedly orchestrated by opposition-linked individuals during demonstrations over the recent rise in fuel prices.

In a strongly worded statement released on Monday, UDA National Organising Secretary and Mwala MP, Vincent Musyoka, accused opposition leaders from the region of sponsoring political goons who allegedly infiltrated the protests and set the party offices ablaze.

Musyoka described the incident as “a calculated act of political terrorism, intimidation, and destruction,” insisting that the destruction witnessed in Wote was far beyond the constitutional right to peaceful demonstrations.

“What transpired in Wote was not a peaceful demonstration protected under the Constitution, but a calculated act of political terrorism and anarchy orchestrated by individuals who have chosen violence over democracy,” the statement read.

The UDA official further accused opposition leaders of exploiting the public’s frustrations over the increasing cost of fuel to incite chaos and destruction for political gain.

“It is shameful and unacceptable that opposition leaders continue to exploit genuine concerns affecting wananchi in order to incite chaos, destroy property, and destabilize peace for cheap political mileage,” Musyoka stated.

The ruling party has now called on security agencies to launch swift investigations and arrest all those involved in planning, financing, and executing the attack.

Musyoka maintained that political competition in the country should never degenerate into violence, hooliganism, and destruction of property, emphasizing that Kenya remains a democratic state governed by the rule of law.

“We want to remind the opposition that Kenya is governed by the rule of law, not mob justice and political blackmail,” he said.

At the same time, the UDA official defended the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying no amount of intimidation or violence would derail the government’s development agenda aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Kenyans.

He also appealed to UDA supporters across the country to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding despite what he termed as provocation from political rivals.

“UDA remains a democratic party founded on the principles of unity, development, and constitutionalism,” Musyoka added.

The statement comes amid growing political tensions in parts of the country following public protests over the rising cost of fuel and the increasing cost of living.

Musyoka warned leaders allegedly sponsoring violence that Kenyans were tired of politics driven by chaos instead of solutions to the country’s economic challenges.

Despite the destruction of the Wote offices, the UDA National Organising Secretary insisted that the incident would not weaken the party’s resolve.

“The destruction of our offices in Wote will not weaken our resolve. If anything, it strengthens our commitment to continue popularizing the party and standing firmly with the people of Kenya,” he said.

Authorities had not yet issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication.
