Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Thursday presided over the graduation of 831 trainees drawn from Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) across Makueni County during the inaugural Makueni–KCB Foundation 2Jiajiri Programme graduation ceremony held at the Makueni Integrated Vocational Education Centre.

The graduation marked the successful completion of a KES 60 million partnership between the County Government of Makueni and the KCB Foundation aimed at equipping young people with technical and entrepreneurial skills through the 2Jiajiri Programme.

Speaking during the event, Governor Mutula said the county government has invested more than KES 80 million in vocational training infrastructure over the last three years under the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP III), as part of efforts to strengthen technical education and empower the youth economically.

Through the partnership, several VTCs across the county benefited from major infrastructural upgrades, including installation of solar-powered boreholes, water and electricity connections, renovation of workshops, modern training equipment, and improved computer laboratories.

Out of the 900 trainees enrolled in the programme, 831 graduated successfully after completing various technical courses. Among the graduands, 264 attained First Class Honours while 567 earned Ordinary Passes.

Governor Mutula announced that all First Class Honours graduands will receive starter toolkits from the county government to help them transition into self-employment and entrepreneurship.

He further directed the Department of ICT, Education and Internship to establish the Makueni 2Jiajiri Alumni Network within the next 90 days to enhance networking opportunities, mentorship, and market access for graduates.

The governor also confirmed that funds have already been allocated in the 2026/2027 Financial Year budget to sustain and expand the programme as part of the county’s broader strategy to promote youth empowerment, job creation, and economic growth through vocational training.

The ceremony was attended by Joblin Omani, Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Douglas Mbilu, and the Clerk of the County Assembly, among other county leaders and stakeholders.
