A 19-year-old woman is nursing serious injuries at the Mother and Child Hospital in Wote Town, Makueni County, after being brutally attacked by her lover, who also killed her father during the rescue attempt.
Naomi Kaviti Muati, who is nine months pregnant, narrowly escaped death after her partner stabbed her multiple times in Mangala village, Kasikeu, in the small sub-county of Nzaui.
In the heartbreaking incident that led to her father's death, Naomi says the suspect turned violent after she ended their relationship due to persistent abuse and returned to live with her parents.
She further stated that the man became enraged upon seeing her with another man, forced her to his house, and began stabbing her — leaving her with injuries on her arms, head, and neck.
The suspect, currently in custody at the Makueni Police Station, also attacked Naomi’s parents when they responded to her distress calls. Her father, who was disabled and unable to flee, was hacked to death on the spot with a machete.
Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili has strongly condemned the rising cases of gender-based violence in the county and urged the government to intensify efforts to combat such acts.
The late father is expected to be buried later this week, while Naomi is due to give birth at any time following the funeral.
