The Makueni Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has rolled out its second cohort of skills training sponsorship, targeting 30 young people to pursue courses in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy at the Wote Technical Training Institute.

The beneficiaries, 29 young women and one male student, were drawn from all the seven wards within the constituency. Speaking during the launch of the program, Constituency CDF Chairman Daniel Kavoi urged the trainees to take the opportunity seriously, emphasizing that the skills acquired should be put into practice for both personal growth and community development.

“We don’t want to find you running MPESA kiosks or doing things outside your training. When we see you putting into practice what you have been taught, that will encourage us to continue funding this program to benefit even more young people,” said Kavoi.

He revealed that the first cohort, comprising 70 young men trained in driving and mechanics at the same institution, had successfully completed their studies and were in the process of acquiring their driving licenses. “CDF has covered all costs including tuition, interim licenses, and the new smart driving licenses, which we will soon present to them here at the school as motivation to you, our second cohort,” he added.

On his part, Wote Technical Training Institute Principal, Joshua Munywoki, welcomed the new trainees, assuring them that they would enjoy equal treatment, access to facilities, and opportunities available to other students. He urged them to maintain discipline and take part in extracurricular activities such as music and sports.

“You are very lucky to have this chance, as many young people out there lack such support. Please don’t squander it—make sure you use it the right way so that the skills you acquire here benefit you and the community,” Munywoki told the beneficiaries.

For the trainees, the opportunity has been a dream come true. Kenneth Riguriman, the only male student in the cohort from Wote/Nziu ward, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am very happy to have been selected to pursue cosmetology. I am thankful to our MP for sponsoring me.”

Similarly, Elizabeth Mwende Mwaniki from Muvau/Kikumini ward shared her joy, noting that she had nurtured a passion for hairdressing since childhood but lacked the resources to pursue formal training. “Through our MP and the NG-CDF, I finally have a chance to perfect my skills. I am truly grateful,” she said.

The program, spearheaded by Makueni MP Susan Kiamba through the NG-CDF kitty, is part of a broader initiative to equip youth with employable skills and open pathways to self-reliance.
