Mwaani Girls’ High School on Friday honored its 2024 KCSE top performers in a vibrant ceremony marked with pomp, colour, and heartfelt celebration, as the institution reaffirmed its rising academic trajectory.
The event, which was streamed live on the school’s official Facebook page ‘Mwaani Girls’ High School – the BRAND’, brought together parents, students, community members, alumni, and education stakeholders. The highlight of the day was the recognition of 296 students who attained university entry grades of C+ and above, showcasing the school’s remarkable academic strides.
The institution posted a mean score of 7.977, representing an improvement index of +1.52 from the previous year and achieving a university transition rate of 96.73%, a feat hailed as historic by the school’s leadership.
Speaking during the celebration, Resident Judge Makueni Law Courts, Justice Teresia Matheka, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, urged the students to remain resilient and passionate in their pursuit of success.
“To those getting your awards today, understand that this recognition is not just about grades, but about the determination, hard work, perseverance, and the strength of your character,” said Justice Matheka.
“There are diverse opportunities out there. For instance, if you're studying law, you don’t have to be a Judge or Magistrate. You can specialize in fields like child law, prosecution, or private practice. What matters most is passion—it’s passion that drives people to success,” she added.
In her keynote address, the school’s Principal, Dr. Elizabeth Mutinda, praised the 2024 class for their discipline and commitment, crediting the milestone to collective effort from students, staff, and supportive parents.
“To our prize winners, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. Your commitment to excellence, perseverance, and discipline have brought you to this well-deserved recognition. You are shining examples of what hard work can achieve,” said Dr. Mutinda.
“Even those who may not be receiving awards today, your effort and growth matter greatly. Every step forward counts,” she added.
Dr. Mutinda further emphasized the school’s commitment to holistic education, stating,
“We believe in educating the whole girl—mind, body, and character. Mwaani Girls offers holistic education in a safe and supportive environment.”
The school’s 2024 theme, “Soaring High Beyond Ordinary Heights,” drawn from the book of Isaiah 40:29, has evidently guided the students and staff toward a record-breaking performance.
She also acknowledged the significant contribution of the teaching staff:
“To our dedicated teachers and staff—thank you for your unwavering commitment. Your passion and professionalism are instrumental in shaping confident, responsible, and capable young women.”
To parents and guardians, the Principal noted:
“Your encouragement and sacrifices form the foundation on which these young women stand and excel. Over the past six years, the school has registered consistent improvement, thanks to your cooperation and support.”
Justice Matheka also made an appeal to parents to adopt a nurturing approach to education:
“Our children are gifted differently. If your child is not excelling academically, do not scorn or punish them. Instead, give them the opportunity to discover and pursue what they understand best.”
As the ceremony came to a close, the entire school community erupted in celebration, marking what Dr. Mutinda described as “a historic day” in the school's journey.
“Last year’s KCSE results gave us a grade that has never been achieved in the history of this school. Today, we are here to celebrate history, and I invite every one of you to participate actively so that next year, we soar even higher,” the Principal concluded.
