A pall of grief has engulfed the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) following a tragic road accident that claimed the life of the daughter of its Managing Director, Capt. William K. Ruto.

The fatal crash occurred on Friday evening along the Taita Taveta road as Capt. Ruto was traveling with members of his family. While details of the incident remain under investigation, authorities confirmed that the accident left the family shaken, with the devastating loss of his daughter.

In a statement, KPA expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, extending heartfelt condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during what it described as a period of “unimaginable grief.”

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our heartfelt condolences to the Ruto family. We wish Capt. Ruto and his family a full and speedy recovery,” the authority said.

Despite the loss, there was some relief after officials confirmed that Capt. Ruto and the other family members survived the crash and are currently in stable condition. They are receiving medical attention under close supervision as they recover from injuries sustained in the accident.

KPA further indicated that it is working closely with relevant authorities to establish the cause of the crash. Investigators have launched a probe, with assurances that a comprehensive report will be made public once inquiries are complete.

In the wake of the incident, KPA management has appealed for privacy for the bereaved family as they come to terms with their loss.

The tragedy has also sparked an outpouring of sympathy from leaders and members of the public. Among those who quickly conveyed their support were Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Andrew Mwadime, who reached out to offer assistance to the family.

KPA, its stakeholders, and partners have pledged continued support to Capt. Ruto and his family during this difficult time, even as the nation mourns with them.

Further updates are expected as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
