Makueni County Assembly Minority Leader and Kikumbulyu South MCA, Jades Kalunda, has come out strongly against his Wiper Party-nominated counterpart, Albanus Wambua, popularly known as Clr. Kana, accusing him of sponsoring an attack against him during a high-profile opposition leaders' meeting in Mwingi.
The event, hosted by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his rural home on Thursday, turned chaotic for Kalunda, who claims he was physically assaulted by a group of individuals he described as “hired goons” loyal to Clr. Kana.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Kalunda alleged that the attackers, some of whom he personally identified, confronted him over his political affiliations and ambitions.
“While at the event, a group of Clr. Kana’s goons led by one Gabriel picked on me, questioning why I, a Muungano member, was attending a Wiper meeting, why I am vying for a seat Kana is interested in, why I have refused to negotiate with him politically, and why I support Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., whom they don’t favor,” Kalunda stated.
He named several individuals — Mwendwa, Mesh, Steve, Gabby, and Kim — as part of the group that rained kicks and blows on him, adding that he sustained injuries to his cheek and other parts of his body.
“I was overwhelmed and under physical attack. If not for the timely intervention of Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, and Makueni Speaker Douglas Mbilu, I could have lost my life,” Kalunda claimed.
The Muungano MCA expressed disbelief that a fellow county assembly member would resort to violence, particularly at a gathering aimed at uniting leaders behind Kalonzo Musyoka's 2027 presidential bid.
“I thought we were united in pushing for Kalonzo’s presidency. Unfortunately, it seems some opportunistic individuals like Kana are more focused on self-interest and sowing division,” said Kalunda.
He concluded by affirming his political aspirations: “Let it be known—I will be on the ballot for Kibwezi West MP in 2027. Kana may try to intimidate others, but he is a nobody in the broader mission. We will support H.E. SKM's presidential bid without relenting.”
