The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has removed several prominent leaders from its top decision-making organs following a high-level joint meeting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council.
In a press statement released on March 9, 2026, the coalition announced that the affected leaders had ceased to be members of the two bodies after accepting appointments to public office or aligning themselves with rival political coalitions.
Those removed from the Azimio Coalition Council include former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, nominated MP Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
The coalition also announced the removal of several leaders from the Azimio National Coalition Executive Council. They include former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, Eldas MP Adan Keynan Wehliye, Pokot South MP David Pkosing, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, East African Legislative Assembly member Abdul Haji, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi, Isabella Wangechi Githinji, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, and Solomon Kuria.
According to the statement, the coalition will soon announce replacements for the vacant positions as part of an ongoing restructuring aimed at strengthening the party’s leadership framework.
The meeting further resolved to terminate the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the Leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly with immediate effect.
In his place, the coalition appointed Caroli Omondi as the new Leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly.
Azimio indicated that the leadership changes are intended to realign the coalition’s structures with its political direction as it reorganizes its ranks in the evolving political landscape.
