Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority in partnership with Huduma Kenya has officially rolled out Unclaimed Financial Assets (UFA) Help Desks across all 59 Huduma Centres nationwide, in a move aimed at bringing services closer to wananchi and unlocking billions of shillings lying idle.
Speaking during the launch at the Machakos Huduma Centre, Principal Secretary for Public Investments and Asset Management Cyrell Odede said the nationwide rollout is designed to spare Kenyans the burden of traveling long distances to Nairobi to pursue unclaimed assets left behind by deceased relatives.
Odede revealed that approximately Sh2.3 billion worth of unclaimed financial assets are currently held by the Authority.
“These assets do not belong to the government; they belong to the people of the Republic of Kenya,” she emphasized. “We are encouraging wananchi to come forward and claim what rightfully belongs to them—assets left behind by their fathers, spouses, and loved ones.”
He noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which seeks to empower those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
Beyond unclaimed assets, Odede highlighted ongoing efforts to empower special interest groups through government procurement opportunities. As the official in charge of government assets and procurement of goods and services, she said the State has reserved 30 percent of public procurement opportunities for youth, women and persons living with disabilities.
He urged these groups to register on the Electronic Government Procurement (EGP) platform using their smartphones, eliminating the need to travel to Nairobi to bid for government tenders.
“If you want to do business with government, do it electronically. Register your company in the EGP system, tender online and access opportunities across all state departments and county governments,” he said.
Odede further pointed to government projects such as affordable housing, infrastructure expansion and agricultural development as key areas offering employment and business opportunities to young people across the country.
Public Service and Human Capital Development Principal Secretary Dr. Jane Keira Mbunya described the launch as a major milestone in improving access to government services.
She said many Kenyans lose loved ones without knowing the financial assets they may have left behind, especially in cases where no will was written.
“Today marks a new dawn,” Dr. Mbunya said. “When you visit the UFA desk at any Huduma Centre, officers can search using a name or ID number, inform you what is owed to you, and guide you step-by-step on how to claim it.”
She added that beyond merely identifying assets, the desks will create awareness and provide guidance on the claims process, helping families cushion themselves against financial strain that often follows bereavement.
Dr. Mbunya lauded President William Ruto’s administration for strengthening Huduma Centres as hubs for grassroots service delivery, in line with the Bottom-Up agenda.
As the official overseeing Huduma Centres, Dr. Mbunya called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) yet to onboard their services to do so.
She introduced the “Universal Agent” model, where Huduma staff are trained to offer services on behalf of MDAs facing staffing challenges.
“Do not worry about accommodation or digital tools. Bring your services, train our staff, and they will deliver on your behalf,” she said, adding that digitization efforts have equipped centres with adequate tools to enhance efficiency.
Dr. Mbunya also encouraged job seekers to utilize the National Employment Authority (NEA) desk available at Huduma Centres. The desk connects Kenyans to employment opportunities both locally and internationally and provides guidance on application procedures.
“Our youth and all job seekers should walk into any of the 59 Huduma Centres. They will not only identify opportunities but will also be guided on the roadmap to secure those jobs,” she said.
The launch at Machakos signals a significant step in decentralizing access to financial justice and economic opportunities, as the government moves to ensure that no Kenyan is left behind in accessing services and resources rightfully theirs.
