Machakos Level 5 Hospital has initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against a maternity billing office cashier following allegations of serious financial misconduct captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
According to an internal review of video recordings dated January 8, 2026, the cashier on duty, identified as Colleta Boniface, is alleged to have manipulated official invoices and handled cash outside established hospital procedures. Management says the footage raises grave concerns about the integrity of billing processes and the safeguarding of public resources.
In the first clip reviewed by hospital authorities, the cashier is seen removing an original Social Health Authority (SHA) invoice valued at KSh 12,900 and placing it into her handbag. She allegedly proceeds to issue a new invoice of KSh 10,000 for the same client to facilitate discharge, despite the patient reportedly lacking the required identification to confirm eligibility for SHA services.
Hospital management states that this action constitutes a clear deviation from approved billing protocols and potentially compromises official financial records.
Further footage allegedly shows the same client delivering KSh 6,000 in cash, said to have been requested by the cashier to enable clearance under the SHA system. The cashier is observed discreetly drawing the cash closer using her foot before picking it up and placing it into the same handbag. Following her arrest, a search of the handbag reportedly revealed several invoices, suggesting possible recurrent irregular practices.
In a statement, Machakos Level 5 Hospital confirmed that Human Resource disciplinary procedures have been formally activated and may result in severe sanctions in accordance with the hospital’s Human Resource policies and applicable laws.
“The hospital takes matters of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct very seriously,” management said, adding that the officer concerned has been formally warned and accorded due process as investigations continue.
The hospital further issued a stern warning to all staff, emphasizing that any engagement in malpractice, financial impropriety, or abuse of office will attract firm and decisive action.
Machakos Level 5 Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, proper use of public funds, and the provision of ethical and professional healthcare services to the public.
