Police in Machakos town are investigating the killing of a night guard at a shop in the Mumbuni area, which occurred in the early hours of today.
The guard was attacked by thugs together with his colleague, who is currently in critical condition while receiving treatment at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
The shop owner, David Kingโoo, said he was shocked to find the two guards lying on the ground, only to realize that one of them had already died.
Kingโoo blamed a nearby nightclub, questioning why it operates for 24 hours without closing at night. He suspects the establishment could be contributing to the rising cases of crime in the area.
Area chief Mathew Mulee said that all criminals in the area will be dealt with and urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing information.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
A witness, Bonface Mwema, said criminal incidents have been on the rise, especially since December 24 last year, and called on the police to intensify patrols in the area.
