Machakos County leaders have joined the media fraternity and residents in mourning the death of seasoned KTN journalist Japheth Makau, describing him as a principled, courageous, and dedicated professional whose contribution to journalism will be sorely missed.
In a condolence message, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti said she received the news of Makau’s passing with deep sorrow and profound sadness. The journalist, who worked with the Standard Media Group, passed away at Machakos Level 5 Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.
“On behalf of the County Government of Machakos and the people of Machakos County, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at the Standard Media Group, and the entire media fraternity,” Governor Ndeti said.
She described Makau as a distinguished journalist whose work exemplified professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to truth and public service, noting that his voice and passion for journalism had a lasting impact on society.
“We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time and pray that God grants them strength, comfort, and peace. May they find solace in the legacy Japheth leaves behind through his service to society,” she added, praying for the eternal repose of his soul.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi also paid tribute to the late journalist, terming his death a major loss to the media fraternity, particularly members of the press in Machakos County.
“The media fraternity, and especially the Machakos members of the press, have lost a strong member, a dedicated journalist and an accomplished professional,” Mwangangi said.
He extended his condolences to Makau’s wife, family, and colleagues, noting that the late journalist served diligently as a KTN correspondent in Machakos.
Makau’s death has sent shockwaves across the county and the wider media industry, with colleagues and leaders remembering him as a committed journalist who upheld the highest standards of the profession.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
