The journalism fraternity is mourning the death of long-serving KTN television journalist Japheth Kiiti Makau.

Makau passed away at the Machakos Level Five Referral Hospital shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, where he had been receiving treatment for tuberculosis and other related complications.

Doctors at the facility said medical teams made every possible effort to save his life, but he sadly succumbed to the illness. He had been discharged from the same hospital last Friday but was readmitted a day later after his condition deteriorated and he developed breathing difficulties.

News of his passing drew dozens of journalists to the hospital, led by Machakos Journalists Association Chairperson Daniel Nzia, as colleagues and friends gathered to pay tribute to a man remembered for his dedication, humility and professionalism.

“Makau fought a brave and dignified battle, but he has now gone to rest. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Nzia said, noting that they had worked together at the Standard Group for several years.

On behalf of journalists in Machakos County, Nzia conveyed heartfelt condolences to Makau’s wife, Jacqueline, and the entire family, describing the loss as a painful blow to both the media industry and the wider community.

Makau’s death marks the end of a distinguished career and leaves a deep void among colleagues who admired his commitment to storytelling and public service.
