Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has issued a stern warning to residents encroaching on road reserves, declaring the practice a critical obstacle to the county’s infrastructure transformation. The governor emphasized that illegal structures must be removed voluntarily or face forceful eviction to pave the way for unimpeded development.

The warning came during an inspection tour of the ongoing upgrade of the Gossip–Mlolongo–Police Housing Loop Road to bitumen standards in Mlolongo Township. Governor Wavinya expressed deep concern over the rampant encroachment, which she stated has consistently delayed vital road projects across Machakos County.

“Encroachment on road reserves is a major setback to our development agenda,” Governor Wavinya stated. “The resulting disputes from displacing businesses not only slow down progress but also inflate project costs significantly. We are urging those who have built on these reserves to clear the way now.”

Beyond the infrastructure drive, the governor linked improved roads to economic empowerment. She called on residents to leverage the ongoing projects by engaging in viable entrepreneurial activities, noting that enhanced connectivity creates a fertile ground for local businesses to flourish.

The governor also sounded an alarm on environmental health, criticizing poor waste management and indiscriminate dumping of garbage in the area. She warned that littering poses a direct threat to public health and erodes the gains made through development initiatives.

“Maintaining a clean environment is a personal and collective responsibility. Improper waste disposal undermines our community’s wellbeing and the very infrastructure we are building,” she asserted.

The Gossip–Mlolongo road project, a key pillar of the county’s infrastructure plan, is set to extend to the Mlolongo Dispensary and Assisi Nursing Home. Upon completion, it is expected to significantly ease mobility for thousands of residents in surrounding neighborhoods.

Responding to recent criticism of her administration, Governor Wavinya remained steadfast, insisting that her focus remains squarely on service delivery rather than political noise.

“My priority is development, not politics. The true measure of leadership is the tangible projects on the ground that transform lives,” she said, pledging to continue working tirelessly for the people of Machakos.

The governor’s strong stance signals a renewed push to accelerate infrastructure projects while calling for public cooperation in fostering a conducive environment for growth and public health.
