Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has reaffirmed the Government’s firm commitment to strengthening higher education, improving staff welfare, and aligning university training with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.

Speaking during the 58th Graduation Ceremony of Kenyatta University, Ogamba announced that the Government has paid the first instalment of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for university lecturers, describing the move as a clear demonstration of its resolve to honour agreements and foster industrial harmony in public universities. He assured academic staff and stakeholders that the remaining CBA obligations will be addressed through the 2026 national budget.

“The welfare of our lecturers is central to the quality of education we deliver. By settling the first instalment of the CBA and committing resources for the remaining obligations, the Government is investing directly in the future of our higher education system,” the Cabinet Secretary said.

In a key announcement for learners and parents, Ogamba disclosed that the placement of students into universities and colleges would be released by noon today, following the official announcement of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results. He noted that the timely release of placements reflects the Ministry’s commitment to efficiency, transparency, and ensuring a smooth transition for learners to the next level of education.

Addressing the graduands, the Cabinet Secretary congratulated them on their achievement and challenged them to use the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and national development. He urged them to embrace technology, creativity, and lifelong learning as key pillars of the Government’s digital transformation agenda.

“As you step into the world of work and enterprise, I challenge you to be problem-solvers and job creators. Let your skills align with our national vision of digital transformation and inclusive growth,” he added.

Ogamba also commended Kenyatta University’s leadership, faculty, and staff for their commitment to academic excellence, research, and innovation, noting the institution’s vital role in nurturing skilled human capital for Kenya and the wider region.

The ceremony marked another milestone for the university as it continues to produce graduates poised to contribute to the country’s socio-economic transformation in an increasingly digital and knowledge-driven economy
