Two people lost their lives on Tuesday night in a tragic road accident involving a public service vehicle near Cai Resort along the Machakos-Kyumbi road.
According to Machakos Sub-County Traffic Base Commander David Ekuro, one passenger died on the spot, while the driver of the maruti matatu succumbed to injuries at the Machakos Level Five Hospital, where he had been rushed for treatment.
Five other victims sustained various injuries and were admitted to the same hospital.
Speaking to The County Champion from his office, Commander Ekuro said the crash occurred at around 9:00 PM and involved three vehicles: a maruti matatu, a tipper lorry, and a salon car. Both the maruti and the salon car were extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the tipper lorry, which was headed towards Machakos town, was overtaking when the collision occurred.
All three vehicles have since been towed to the traffic yard as investigations into the cause of the multiple-vehicle accident continue.
