Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto’s administration of using the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as a political weapon against leaders who refuse to align with the government.

Speaking in Machakos during the consecration and enthronement of the 4th Bishop of Machakos, Ven Canon Patrick Kyalo Munuve, Kalonzo raised alarm over what he termed as a disturbing trend of targeting dissenting leaders through state agencies.

“We have witnessed cases where EACC officers are being deployed to harass Governors who are not politically aligned with those in power. In Trans Nzoia, for instance, we have credible information that there are plans to arrest Governor Natembeya simply to humiliate him before his constituents. This kind of intimidation is unacceptable,” Kalonzo said.

He emphasized the need for leaders to enjoy their constitutional right to freedom of association without fear, and for independent institutions like the EACC to be shielded from political manipulation.

Kalonzo also condemned the recent arrest of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, claiming it was another attempt by the government to silence outspoken leaders.

He insisted that Salasya had no case to answer and that his arrest was purely an act of political intimidation.

“Let leaders speak their minds freely. The era of using state institutions to settle political scores must come to an end,” Kalonzo added.
