Kajiado Senator Lenku Kanar Seki has sounded the alarm over what he termed as a “grave injustice” faced by 48 former employees of Nol-Turesh Loitoktok Water and Sewerage Company Limited, who are yet to receive court-awarded compensation nearly a year after judgment was passed.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Senator Seki sought an urgent Statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare to address the failure by the company to implement an Employment and Labour Relations Court ruling delivered on September 21, 2023.
The court had directed Nol-Turesh—jointly owned by the County Governments of Kajiado, Machakos, and Makueni—to pay the group Kshs. 157,313,534.48 in unpaid benefits and terminal dues, a directive that remains unfulfilled.
“These workers rendered service in good faith and deserve what the law has awarded them. Justice delayed is justice denied,” Senator Seki lamented.
He called on the Labour Committee to probe the reasons behind the company’s non-compliance and to compel the relevant authorities to provide a definitive timeline for disbursing the compensation.
The Senator further pressed the three county governments to uphold labour rights and prevent employees from enduring prolonged financial hardship due to administrative lapses or neglect.
